Hello future Owls! I'm excited to be able to talk to you today about the Campus Recreation Department here at Temple University. We oversee a variety of physical fitness facilities on Main Campus, and run a lot of recreation and fitness-based programs throughout the year as well. 

If you're a full-time student you have rec access as part of your tuition fees that are paid here at Temple University. So all you need is your OWLcard or digital wallet OWLcard, and you're good to swipe into our facilities and start working out. We see over 4,000 patrons on our average day during the semester. This is a number we're very proud of. It shows that we're a place where Owls work out, de-stress, train, play, and hang out together. And we want you to be number 4,001 at our Recreation Facilities this upcoming semester. 

So to dive into our Recreation Facilities a little bit—the majority of them are located on the west side of Broad Street. The first one we'll jump into here is the IBC Student Recreation Center. We actually just renovated this this past summer so it's got a lot of nice new spaces in it. It's great if you're interested in any cardio or weight training, so it has a great mix of both cardio and weight training equipment. It also hosts our group fitness sessions. You can see a photo of one of the yoga sessions to the right there, and then it also has racquetball courts if you're interested in playing racquetball.

Next up is the Aramark Student Training and Recreation Complex. To the left there you'll notice our climbing wall, which also features a bouldering wall, which is the lower portion of the wall there, where you can actually free-climb without ropes. So it's a nice feature that helps our climbing wall stand out among the rest. And to the right there you'll see our weight room. If you're interested in weight training this is the facility for you on Temple's campus. It has tons of great weight training equipment. So it's definitely the place to be if that's what you're interested in. 

Next up is Pearson and McGonigle Halls. Our main offices are located on the third floor of this building. Along with our third floor rec courts, you can see a picture out to the left there. Our third floor rec courts actually overlook Broad Street, so it's a great venue to play some pickup basketball or intramurals. We also set up Net Night on a lot of Friday nights. So if you wanna play volleyball, badminton, or table tennis, we also try and run that out of the third floor courts as well. To the right there you'll see a photo of our pool, located in the basement of Pearson and McGonigle Halls. So no matter what time of the year it is, no matter what the temperature is outside, you can always go for a swim whenever you want at our campus recreation pool located in the basement of Pearson and McGonigle Halls. 

We also have some outdoor facilities. To the left there you'll see a picture of Geasey Field, and to the right is a picture of the Temple Sports Complex. We also have an outdoor track area along with some outdoor basketball courts. So if you wanna get some fresh-air recreation, we do have those opportunities available as well. 

Next up we'll jump into some of the programs that we offer. First up is Intramural Sports. To the left there you can see a list of the Intramural Sports that we offer throughout the year. Intramural Sports is where you and your friends, or you and some other Temple students, form a team and then you compete against other students here at Temple to try and become the Universitywide Intramural Champion. We have a variety of divisions that people can compete in. 

There's also women's leagues, men's leagues, and co-rec leagues so you can find the atmosphere that you're looking for. You can join these as a team or sign up as a free agent and be added to a team later on. So it's a great way to make some new friends and meet some new people. 

We also have Sport Clubs, which is a little bit more competitive than Intramurals. These are teams that go and compete against other university sport club teams. These range from anything from paintball to gymnastics to rugby. So we really have a wide variety of Sport Clubs that we offer here at Temple University. These are all student run and student led, we oversee them, but these are student-based organizations. So the students really do get to decide the shape of their season and the emphases and focuses they place throughout their year. 

Next up, we'll jump into our Group Fitness Sessions. I love talking about these to people. These are all led by nationally certified instructors. So whether you've tried stuff like cycling, water aerobics, yoga, and Zumba before, or you've never tried them at all, they can help you out no matter what your skill level is. I can't recommend these highly enough. To go to these sorts of sessions at a corporate gym would cost a lot of money, so while you're a Temple student here, it's totally free for you to attend. So I'd definitely recommend you check out some Group Fitness Sessions when you get here next semester. 

We also have some Special Events that we run throughout the year. Just some different things to keep the schedule light and fun, you can see some outdoor yoga sessions taking place there, to the right there's a picture of a battleship where we get teams in canoes and we give 'em buckets and they try and throw buckets of water at the other canoes to sink 'em first. Really fun game. So we definitely try and do some different, off-the-beaten-path stuff that's fun.

Lastly, we also have a variety of programs that are available for you to take advantage of, such as Certification Opportunities: if you want to become a personal trainer or get a cycling instructor certification we have those opportunities. 

We also have an Adapted Recreation Program: so if you're a student with disabilities who needs assistance setting up a workout routine or wants a workout buddy we have those resources available for you. We also have Fitness Orientations and Personal training: so if you want a tour of the gym or want someone to help work on a one-on-one workout routine with you, those options are also available. 

One last thing I want to mention to you guys is that we also are among the largest employers of student staff on the Temple University campus. So if you're interested in work-study or part-time work, I definitely recommend you give us a look.
