About Pre-Professional Health Studies, we support students interested in health professions in the following areas: medicine, dentistry, optometry, occupational therapy, podiatry physician assistant pharmacy, veterinary medicine and physical therapy. We work in conjunction with the student's academic advisor and we support students in helping them prepare for their eventual applications to health professionals schools.

Through Pre-Professional Health Studies students receive one-on-one advising, group advising, have access to workshops and seminars, a resource tool called ePortfolio, committee interview opportunities, as well as mock interview opportunities. All to help our students prepare for their eventual application to a professional school.

One of the first tools and resources that we refer our students to is their pre-professional timeline. We recommend that you take a look at the URL temple.edu/healthadvising/timelines to take a look at the timeline associated with your career interest. You'll be able to see the prerequisite coursework required for your professional area of interest, as well as other important information relating to your application. 

Throughout our advising relationship, we will work with you and have discussions about your exposure to healthcare, community service, GPA and test scores, which are all important areas represented on an application to a professional school.

A resource that we use for our students in the advising process is a tool called ePortfolio. The purpose of an ePortfolio is to help keep our students organized towards their application. It helps our students prepare for their application and be reviewed by an advisor in advance. For students in particular areas of interest, such as medicine in dentistry, an ePortfolio is a tool that gives the students an opportunity to earn a committee letter. In a nutshell, through an ePortfolio a student is providing their GPA, personal statement, resume and professional development.

Special programs: Some of the special programs that PPHS supports are those of the pre-med health scholars and accelerated programs, all of which are linkage agreements with our professional schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and podiatry. If you are interested in the Pre-Med Health Scholars program, the application is available now on the Pre-Professional Health Studies website. The deadline for the Pre-Med Health Scholars program is December 11th, 2020.

For those of you who are interested in the accelerated programs of dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and podiatry the application for these programs will also be available on the PPHS website in January 2021.
